Magicka, because of its humor and satire, is filled with references to other games, movies and internet phenomenon. Very few are subtle.

Ach steam.jpg Let off some steam The achievement icon depicts the logo of Steam, a digital service through which Magicka is distributed. It can also reference Arnold Schwarzenegger's «Let off some steam, Bennett!» one-liner from Commando as well as the song Let off some steam by a dutch band Outlandish.

Locations[edit | edit source]

"Midgard" - Final fantasy VII - The name of the capital city of Final fantasy VII's world. "Midgård" is also part of scandinavian mythos (Asa tro), the place where humans reside, in the middle of it you find Asgård. Freely translated it means "middle yard".

"Castle Aldrheim" - Star Wars IV: A New Hope - The name of the castle, Aldrheim sounds very similar to Prinsess Leia's home planet, Alderaan, destroyed by the Empire's mighty Death Star. Aldrheim also sounds much like the swedish word for nursing home: "äldrehem."

"Dunderhead" - Star Wars IV: A New Hope - Dunderhead has close resemblances to the city Anchorhead on the planet Tatooine. While the planet itself has been featured in most Star Wars movies, The city of Anchorhead is the space port Luke, Obi Wan and Han visit to escape Tatooine in A New Hope.

"Vlad's Village" - Diablo 2 - The music playing upon entering the dreary, rainy village is a callback to the original acoustics played in Tristram of Diablo and Diablo 2, and the atmosphere itself resembles Diablo 2's with the rain and bridge into a sad town.

"The Lonely Island" - The Lonely Island

"Nunshul Pass" - Monty Python & The Holy Grail - one of the Black Knight's quotes is "None shall pass". Could also be a reference to a rock album, None Shall Pass or the quote from The Lord of the Rings.

"The Island of R'lyeh" - The Call of Cthulhu - R'lyeh is the resting place of Cthulhu, a Great Old One.

"Castle Aaaaargh" - Monty Python & The Holy Grail - a name of Castle mentioned in the prophecy.

"Outsmouth" - The Shadow Over Innsmouth - Innsmouth is a fictional town featured in one of H.P. Lovecraft's horror novellas.

One of the box arts of the game[1] bares strong resemblance to the box art for "The Legend of Zelda : Four swords Adventures"[2] Which can be seen by comparing these two pictures
